International Music Study Exam (IMSE)

The Associated Board of the Prague Premier Music College (AB-PPMC), Czech Republic, has developed a professional curriculum for music schools and private instrumental teachers called the International Music Study Exam (IMSE), designed for those seeking a high-level, structured program. Through collaboration with and accreditation by PPMC, students can earn graded certificates for each level, from Preparatory up to Level 10 (Diploma). These qualifications enable students to continue their musical studies at any music school in the Czech Republic or worldwide, audition for the Prague Conservatory at Level eight, and apply to audition for continued study at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU) at the Diploma Level 10, or at any other music university internationally. - Students also gain access to masterclasses, summer courses, and performance opportunities alongside advanced peers. Distinguished professors lead all programs from PPMC, the Prague Conservatory, and HAMU. Every stage of study and performance is overseen and guided by PPMC, ensuring the highest standards of musical education.

Curriculum Levels

  • Beginner Study: Preparatory Level; for children starting in Ages 4–6; typically completed in one to two years, depending on the child’s ability.

  • Primary Study: Levels 1–4 (4 years)

  • Intermediate Study: Levels 5–7 (3 years)

  • High Study: Levels 8–10 (Diploma Level) (3 years)

Accreditation and Student Advancement

  • Students can seamlessly continue their musical education at the same level they achieved with us at reputable conservatories worldwide.

  • Completion of Level 7 qualifies students to audition for Prague National Conservatory, and completion of Level 10 (Diploma) qualifies students to audition for HAMU Prague performing arts university or any other leading music universities around the world.

International Music Study Exam (IMSE)

IMSE is an international instrumental examination and professional syllabus program for all instruments, developed by highly experienced Czech professors from the Associated Board of the Prague Premier Music College(AB-PPMC).
This program is designed for high-level music conservatories and institutions with serious young musicians seeking rigorous study and professional development. It enables students to continue their education at any reputable conservatory or music university worldwide.
Since each student’s progress depends on the number of weekly lessons, individual talent, and practice, distinguished students may advance through IMSE levels more quickly when they demonstrate readiness.
IMSE exams may be taken online by submitting video recordings or in person before a committee from AB-PPMC.
Each instrumental level in the IMSE program is divided into two stages.
The IMSE instrumental examination for each stage consists of five subjects:
  1. Scales20 marks
  2. Five Etudes in different stylesStudents must prepare all five etudes; during the examination, one etude will be performed by the student’s choice and another by the examiner’s choice (20 marks)
  3. Five PiecesStudents must prepare all five pieces; during the examination, one piece will be performed by the student’s choice and another by the examiner’s choice (20 marks)
  4. 1st stage: Sonata (first movement if the work is long) – 2nd stage: Chamber music work (20 marks)
  5. Concerto – 1st or 3rd Movement – 20 marks
Total marks for each stage: 100
The IMSE music instrumental exam is offered online (via video submission) within a credit-based system, allowing students to take more or fewer subjects depending on their readiness.
 
The IMSE Theory Examination includes four subjects:
  1. Theory40 marks
  2. Hearing Tests and Music Memory – 20 marks
  3. Music Dictation (melodic and rhythmic) – 20 marks
  4. Solfeggio20 marks
Total marks for each stage: 100
